110 km Lusk Wyoming to Chadron Colorado
Midnight to 6am
Seriously who rides midnight to six in the snow, rain, sleet, and wind? We do. I have one word to describe our night BRUUUUUTAL. We took over from team two in the saddest transition yet. It was made even sadder when we went 20km in the wrong direction and had to double back in very strong headwind! I did not enjoy.
With only the love of the bike, the warriors and the promise of warmer climates to keep us cranking every 20km was a challenge. WE hit 3.5 hours and our spirits were low, our toes numb and drenched. Some tea my stash of toe warmers and grocery bags on our feet restored our good moods! (and really how can you keep a straight face when Darling keeps dropping his pants!!) That and we hit 17 miles of fresh smooth like glass pavement. How sweet it is.
I had to laugh when we pulling into our second last break called "Scenic Outlook" keep in mind it was 4am in Nebraska. not a light to be seen. Scenic Outlook was the top of Pine Hills which we had been climbing all night long. I've never been happier to see (feel) uphills in my life. We were paid back by a 20km descent and the weather finally started to turn in our favor and we could pass off to team four in nicer weather. We push the last 20km hard to make 110km.
We're driving now to breakfast (I think in Alliance, Colorado) and hopefully soon to a bed (it's not 3:30 and I'm still trying to get to bed) The sunrise is gorgeous and feeling of team work is in the air as we sit in the van and chat about our ride. I just realized that we are back in the van we left Calgary in! I don't know why that makes me feel happy. Wouldn't have traded that night for anything!
We drove for hours to get to Burlington Colorado, it looks like it was a good day for the team. I can't wait to hear all about it!
We've all hit the scary look in the van. I wouldn't want to meet any of us in a dark alley. and I know I've got the sleep deprived sillys. It's been quite the adventure so far. I sad that it's already day 5 and that we've put hundreds of km on the bikes. My thighs are getting bigger (and thankfully stronger) by the day and I'm so looking forward to a real vegetable and I miss the rest of the team. Norbert I owe you a HUGE hug. Stay safe our there kids. Bee Cave is just a few sleeps away!

Jonathan Abby and Meg (Ann knows who we are).
hang in there kelsey!!! a bad nite/day bikin' is better than a good day at the office. or something like that...
happy thanxgivin'!!
Kelsey - Tricia here. I just realized that you kept bloggin while en route! I'm clearly a little slow. Wow. Wow. Wow. I love your descriptions although any time I read "rain, wind" I wince a little for you.
Since you left I had some odd bloodwork and so I am having a bone marrow biopsy today to see what's up. The biopsy is kind of like the rain and wind! Anyway, I can't wait to meet up in only a few days in Austin...I'll watch the blog now that I realize it's active and keep wishing you energy, good weather and flat lands.
Rock on!
Keep up the good work! It sounds like you're doing great, so don't stop now. Neither wind nor sleet nor snow...
So proud!
