So last night I had to get home and push out two hours on the bike and a 20min brick. Turns out doing your BIG bike workout on a week night kinda stinks.
I also decided that I could be at least half as tough as Susi and dig in without too much distraction. While I was prepared to forgo the tv I couldn't part with my ipod. I did notice that I was a lot more 'in the moment' and felt like I was working harder. The two hours flew by and it was time for me to get out to the paths for a 20min run. It was Flippin' cold! I do not enjoy. I've been having nothing but problems with bike shoes. I'm on my second pair and I know that these ones won't work either. Jenna I feel you pain with the runners! One's too big, one is too small they both hurt my big toes. ugh By the time I finished stretching it was 10pm and I had enough time to eat and hop in the shower and crawl into bed.
This morning I was a sleepy girl. I was still feeling the effects of the bike when I headed out on my run this morning. My knee was twinging on the bike last night so I was a little curious about how it would work. The good news is that I made it farther then any other time. The bad news is I hit one serious wall of pain. At the 11km mark it was like running into a brick wall. All I could do to push through the last 35 minutes. So in the future I will avoid the Big bike and Big run combo!
This post is rambling so I'm signing off. Enjoy the sunshine!

is it sunny out?? i'm trapped in cubicle hell with nary a sun ray crossing my path. sigh...
i am sooo not tough!! seriously. i cry during long distance commercials. don't even get me started on movies where animals die. sniff, sniff.
i just happen to be a glutten for punishment and have a crazy gerbil in my brain that can keep me amused for hours (only child syndrome), which is why i can sit on a bike for 2.5 hours with no outside entertainment.
oh, and i do turn on the tv for the last 10 minutes (cool down). i use that as a reward. needless to say nothing good is ever on. LOL.
glad you learned the lesson about big runs and big bikes back to back. silly girl!! ;)
ug!! how did you do it.... however, i too, am trapped like a cage animal in my office - no windows, no indication of day light ....no fresh air - I HATE IT. Maybe riding to work will help, or noon hour runs, or noon hour dashes to the outdoor pools - when the ice thaws and the windchill goes of course!!
As for sitting on a bike for 2.5 hours with no distractions ...am i pretty sure I would rather pull my eyelids over my head - I couldn't do it. No way! On the road though - there are plenty of things to distract me so its fine. I have noticed on IM movies and videos that on the run people look like they are rambling to thmselves, the wandering mad, seriously. I often think to myself I wonder at which point I will be talking to myself and not noticing that I am answering and that people all over are looking at me like I am a nutbar! Likely mile 2 ..baaahaa .only if I eat the paste!!!!!
I'm glad that you have determined just what your body can handle -- take care of that bod, girl!! :) :)
I need visual stimulation on the bike. I have a bloody visual orgy compared to you tough nuts!!! I have my Computrainer beside the boob-tube. I only get one channel (CTV,surprise! not CBC -- though I am not complaining! hahaha!) Usually, I get to watch Dr. Phil and then it's just 2 hours of news. Then I might flip to watching a movie.
