Wow that was one long banana break! I could try to explain my absence with my quick wit and charm but instead you're going to get the Cole's Notes version. After the May long training camp my training took a massive and sudden nosedive. I totally lost my motivation, my runs were terrible and painful, I couldn't be bothered to get up in the morning for half my swim practices. This in combo with some pretty massive personal issues resulted in my hiding like a frightened turtle for a few weeks.
With help from Susi, Jenna and Greg to name a few and a quit jaunt to Seattle I am happy to report that I'm ready to rejoin the land of the living and just in time too! Keith and I will be battling it out on the Chinook Half Ironman Course this weekend and if he lets out his inner shark then I'm in deep trouble.
I'm feeling (mostly) physically ready but not at all with the details.
1. I bought a pair of tri shorts that don't have the elastic band at the bottom hence ride up to my neither regions in short order. Options include buying another new pair of tri shorts or attempting to change out of my bike shorts into run shorts in transition. Help!
2. Water. They are going to pass me water on the bike course. Do I dump unscrew water, unscrew the water bottle and then transfer. This seems like it will require more coordination then I have? Or just ride with enough on me? Or suck it up and get the profile water bottle for the tribars? (even though I will face mocking and ridicule from my roadie friends)
3. I'm still a bit confused on the getting calories in? Recommendations?

Good luck this weekend! I would be out there cheering you on, but I have a party the night before in just out of town and I may have a few wobbly pops.
Welcome back to the land of blogliving!
I'm going to the open water swim tonight to scope out the facilities. They should be able to answer any questions at the pre-race meeting.
As for water, I'm going to mix up two bottles of energy drink, and bring one of water, then plan to drink and toss at aid stations if necessary. That's got me through several rides on this course. If I time it right I can switch out the empty at the turnaround point so I can use both hands.
As for nutrition, I'm gonna stuff my bento box full of Cliff's bars, with my fave mint ones at the bottom. 4 bars will fit in there with a bit of encouragement, and that will get me through, probably with a little to spare.
Looking forward to seeing you there! And it turns out that the gal that often swims in the next lane at Renfrew is in the race too.
welcome back sweetpea! we've missed you!!
as for race:
i'm not sure how chinook is set up, but if it's like the stony half they will be passing you open bottles. usually this is for people to dump right into their profile bottles.
i'm not sure how you'd handle it with closed bottles?? i had a friend do stony with no profile and he managed to open his bottels then pour in. i have no idea how.
shorts. hard to run in bike shorts. no change rooms either. might i suggest wearing your run shorts under your bike shorts, then just peeling the bike shorts off after ride? are they close fitting bike shorts? either that or buy some new tri shorts.
hope that helps a wee bit!!
have a great time out there! you are going to be great.
welcome back!!
face the ridicule and get the profile bottle :) just rememebr there is a straw poking up :) i love my profile bottle because it is SOOO MUCH easier to drink when it is right there.
have a great race - looking forward to the recap:)
Hey welcome back stranger. :) We missed you. Good luck in the race sunday!!
YAY!!! Every day I would check to see if the banana post had slid down a notch!! Now it has!!
Glad to hear you've regrouped and are ready to rock. You are a strong chick, Kelsey -- you overcame your fear of swimming in a lake and you are a MONSTER on the bike. (I mean that in the pinkest, fluffiest, prettiest sense of the word too! LOL!)
1. Buy new shorts. Don't even fool around with the nether regions. I mean it.
2. Buy the Profile water bottle. It is by far, the best investment I ever made (apart from my bike). Like Jenna said, the straw is supposed to stick right up there almost in your face. That way all you have to do is while in aero, tip your face down and sip. I love it -- when I am out of stuff, I have my premixed bottles and squirt it into the Profile. You don't have to THINK about rehydrating and grabbing water bottles from your cages. Leaves you more time to think about chicking all those boys!! :)
Once again -- glad to have you back, Kelsey - we missed you!!!!!
I wonder what it would be like to chick someone .....
Yeah don't mess with the nether regions - i think I have a thistle embedded in mine - how do I go about getting that removed? hey doc...I got something you gotta see here ....see I stopped to go wee wee...... yeah ....no messing with the Nethers!!!
