Impression: There are marked changes of periostitis/tibial stress syndrome involving the mid and distal left tibia. blah blah more doctor speak
Effectively it means that I have a very bad shin splint that could turn into a stress fracture.
What it means for me...
Ice, ice and more ice
Taping my shins
Taking Pineapple Enzymes for the inflammation
Ice and ice again
NO running on pavement
More ART then I can shake a stick at
Did I mention the ice?
Not the best news but very managable. No matter what the results were I knew that not doing Ironman was never an option. If I had to put on hikers and walk the entire 42km and finish at 11:59 I would have. Knowing my legs as I do I knew that it was only a matter of time before they got angry with me. I'm more upset that I'll have to put on hold my plans for trail running in Victoria, as all of my doctors have said that when I'm finish with IM then I'm on strict orders not to do any running of any sort and give my shins some badly needed rest.
Does anyone know of any trail runs in or around Calgary?

There are some super trails along the slope above the Bow River between Crowchild and where Shaganappi comes down to the river. Fish Creek and Nose Hill park each have a ton of trails.
hmmm...Fish Creek is ok. Eddy Stelmach has paved the main trail real good but there is still plenty of red shale/gravel/dirt type trails.
About the icing of your tibia, i recommend getting a couple of bags of frozen peas and recycling them between treatments. But I bet you knew that already.
Hey Kel,
I have had huge success doing water running when I had some knee issues earlier this month. My friends Katie Frauts/Jill Kirker recommended it to me and have had much success with it - as did I.
cochrane is about 95% red shale rock/dirt trails so easy on the legs. also there are a ton of trails in west bragg creek park, just watch for the mountain bikers. i was hoping to go out and run ribbon creek in k country once my running is back up to snuff(i'm going to start heading out for short runs this weekend). i'll let you know when i head out there if you want to join me.
glad to hear there is no break!!
Thank goodness there was no stress fracture!!!! Glad to hear it!!
