BC 125

Wow what a crazy day! It was my first official BC day. I got up early and headed out for my first island bike ride. The first hour was mostly uneventful as I took a lot of wrong turns just trying to find my way. At one point I ended up riding along side the lagoon, with the ocean on one side of me and the lagoon/school/castle/baby dear and just when I was breathing in the sea salt air and saw the swans! Seriously the swans were overkill. It's not like I didn't love it here already but then you went and added in SWANS! Come on! I have to go back to Calgary some day!

My bike ride was nearly perfect until the flat tire. I tried to change it but for the life of me I couldn't get the stupid Vittoria wheel completely off. After fighting with it for over an hour I gave up and started walking, bike shoes and all. Thinking to myself I wonder how bike shoes are for my shin splint!

I was trying to figure out what to do. 30km or so from the campus and with only $20 in my pocket and no one to come rescue me. I had a brief moment of 'I miss riding in Calgary' until I stopped and looked around and realized that I didn't care that much that I was walking, as long as I was walking in BC! So I carried on until I found an open bike shop and pleaded for help. I was smugly told that my tires were not at all the right tire for riding here. Poor Lola whimpered. I now have to go find myself some gater skins or something equally tough to handle these rough roads. I had noticed that for a city that's so pretty there is an awfully large amount of crap on the road. Glass, staples, and such. So off to the bike shop for Lola on Saturday for some new Victoria worthy tires.

After all that I headed into Vic Proper to check out the BC 125 birthday party (or as I like to call it Welcome to Kelsey to Victoria Day! It was very strange, for the first time in my adult life I knew that despite the very large crowd I wouldn't bump into a single soul I knew. Both exhilarating and sad.

Anyways, here a photo to tease you with!

You know, I wouldn't have been surprised if you did bump into someone you know. Life's like that.

At the Canmore Oly, I wasn't expecting to see anyone I knew. Chantal showed up. And Linda ran into someone that she has worked with.

Welcome to your new life Kelsey!

Ahhh the swans -- can you believe it? And the picture of Lola at the beach -- WOW!!

I'm glad that you found a bike shop to set you up properly for the roads there.

Maybe you should try running in your bike shoes -- sounds like your shins didn't mind! Hahaha! Plus, it would save precious minutes in T2. LOL!!!
