The race was more fun the I expected it to be. After analyzing my times over and over and over again, thinking up things I could have done faster I know I'll be doing another one (or eight) The swim was as unpleasant as I expected it to be. Every fiber in my body was telling me to get out. I managed to silence the voice inside my head that was screaming "put up your hand and flag that kayak over" and plugged along. I did not enjoy. When you check out the picture below you will see me getting out of the lake with a HUGE smile on my face because I really, really, really wanted out of there. Obviously my swim time was quite a bit slower then most I was 61 out of 70 coming out, but there was still the bike. I have to say I wasn't super happy with the bike course. It was a 4 lap course and full of tiny turns it was difficult to get up to speed. Then it time for the run. Another 4 lap course which while being convenient for photos not so much for running. That first lap after the bike was stupid painful. I remember feeling like I was running against a full headwind. I got into the rhythm and things got easier. The adrenaline of the crowd was crazy and having friends to cheer me along at different points made things a lot easier. Crossing the finish line, I'll admit I got a little weepy. Most of you who read this didn't know me when I refused to get into water past my waist and couldn't run for 5m let alone 5km, when a big bike ride was a trip around the reservoir and didn't a presta from a schrader valve. All the work all summer long the early bed times and the missed patio season was worth it I had done it.

Apple Tri 2007
The tri seems like such a long time ago, so much has happened in between then and now it's hard to remember everything.
