I was suprised by just how difficult it was to get ready in the dark. I realized that one of those headlap climbing things would come in Super handy. I got my lights sorted and put on my pretty new cycling shoes (and said a little prayer that the toes would survive the 100km) I was wearing a cycling hat, three pairs of gloves, a base layer, cycling jersey, cycling vest, arm warmers, jacket, shorts, tights, booties. Team three, being team three went first. It was dark, it was cold and it was a lot of fun. Checking out the stars while on a bike amazing. I can't really describe it but I get shivers just thinking about it (Though that might be cold flashbacks) coming into Bragg the sun was just barely peaking up and between that and the moon I swooned. It was almost enough to make me forget just how cold my hands were.
After a quick warm up in Cinnommon Spoon we headed back. The sun came up and it was really freakin' cold. We lost two team members but gained another one. The four of us left from team three headed up highway 8 directly into the sun. It might have been blinding but at least it was warm.
I lost my rear blinker coming up Glenmore and decided that it was worth leaving. I was thrilled that my toes had made it though 100km and we started talking about the Seattle to Portland Bike Classic. Upon returning to my car I discovered frost on him and shook my head thinking about just how crazy I've become. After a really hot shower I was still frozen to the core. I began to doubt if I would ever be warm again and dreamed of my bathtub.
Two baths, one down blanket covered nap and a fantastic dinner and I've just about recovered.
