April 12th Santa Rose Road to Jalama Beach

136.14km
Bike time 5:19
Total Time 7:45
Average Cadence 78
Average Speed 25.56
Max Speed 71.21
Average HR 157 (though this includes a looooooong lunch break)

50 minute zone two run in the morning. Running through vineyards is uber cool!

What an absoutly killer ride. Seriously beautiful country. I was happy as I was able to stay close to the fast group for most of the ride. Kimble was within viewing distance the entire climb. It was a MONSTER hill going to the beach, every roller climb I would promise myself that the beach was around the corner. The air was thick with heat and then suddenly this wall of ocean air hit us and we knew we were finally close! It was like walking into fridge, suddenly there was the Pacific. Breathtaking

After very long lunch and a killer walk up the beach we got back on the bikes. As we headed out of the beach one of our group was rounding a corner on a descent and he hit the pavement pretty hard. A very experienced cyclist was now missing half his buttock and knee and remembered just how scary this sport can be. I was a lot more careful on the down hills after that. Up the back side MONSTER hill and back through Santa Rosa road. (the best piece of road I’ve ever been on) With an organic lavender field on one side and a vineyard on the other I realized just lucky I was. It was 35 degrees so I have some pretty impressive (read goofy) tan lines. A truly spectacular day of riding.
