2625m
The warm up was
3 sets of 75
- 25 dps
- 25 back
- 25 descending
Main set
3 sets of
400m any stroke
4x 100 descending
There was someone in the lane behind me that kept grabbing my feet. Drove me freakin' crazy! I usually find swimming to be fairly relaxing but when you keep having your foot touched it's really annoying. I finally had to move to the back to avoid it. I remember Greg showing me how to 'draft' in the pool and I did that to him and when we finished he warned me not to do it in a race because people will kick you in the face/ribs/wherever they can connect to. I identified with that feeling this morning.
Keith our swim god, any suggestions?

Me, swim god?? You must be kidding. There are several people here that swim much faster than I do.
Unfortunately, your options are severely limited by being in a pool. Your responses shouldn't induce bleeding, vomiting, peeing, or having a "fecal incident" as my pool puts it. So 5'2"of Fury angry look is right out.
I guess you have to decide if you're being "touched" or "grabbed". The former could be accidental if it's only a few times. Talk about it later. Or it's a persistent signal that buddy thinks he can swim faster. Let him by, then do it to him as many times as was done to you. Burst a lung if you have to.
But being grabbed is beyond the pale. If buddy's got a good grip on your ankle, pull up on your grabbed leg while pushing back with your arms, and kick him in the face with your other foot. Then "apologize" for your reaction. Say you're ticklish. Or if it's a grab and release, stand up, turn around, tighten abs, walk into him, and accuse him, her, or it of harrassing you. Loudly.
My rule for training cats is "you get the behaviours you reward." You probably don't want to know how I trained a cat not to lick me awake in the morning. The rule works on adults, and I'm told it works on children.
I would agree - being accidently touched a few times is one thing - grabbed is a violation and quite frankly - I whoop his ass. If you are touched a few times - wait at the end of the pool and let him pass. If he gets our front and you want to pass - touch his feet a few times - if he refuses to let you pass - I would say you need to have a swim etiquette conversation with him.
Me being less of a lady and quite easily pissed off if people mess with me in the pool, I'd kick him in the face once on reaction and twice for good measure.
Don't take it personal. I think that most people aren't jerks -- they might not realize what they are doing. I know during IMC 2006 someone touched my right foot the entire time. It was a gentle swipe, every stroke - so I just sort of laughed at what was going on. That said, when there is a real aggressive person, I just let them pass -- otherwise you lose your focus on your workout, and all it becomes about is how mad you are getting.
Sometimes there will be a person in the lane beside me (usually a male) that will wait until I start a new lap and "race" me. I just stop right in the middle of the lane, swim back, get my focus, and start over. Also,I'll breathe on the opposite side of whoever is trying to "beat" me so I can't see them, and I am forced to focus on my workout.
During an ironman I gather there is a higher degree of contact, and that's the name of the game. Just bad luck if you've got cute feet and someone with a foot fetish behind you.
But in a pool?? Once is happenstance, twice is coincidence, and the third time is enemy action. React accordingly.
If I'm swimming with faster people, I love it when we end a lap at the same time. I'll pick up the pace and try to keep up. But generally I ignore the other people in the pool, and swim what I'm there to do.
