Thank you all for you very kind words and support. Who knew triathletes had hearts as large are their quads?
But enough of that sappyness. I'm determined to not allow this personal setback to effect my training and instead use the training to help get me through this rough patch. So with that in mind I was determined to get through my long run. My friend DJ called me just before I left while being incredibly supportive also kicked my butt into committing to the long run. I knew in my heart of hearts that once I got started I wouldn't want to stop at the hour mark and would instead push though the whole 90min.
It was a bit chilly last night but I enjoyed the crispness of it and choose to head west instead of my usual loop. It was a nice change of scenery and a beautiful night. I was focusing on my turn over and felt comfortable at low zone two for the first 30 min. After putting my heart though it's paces on Sunday night I didn't want to push it too much. I was feeling great and happy to be out. When I crossed into Edmorthy Park the bike path was still closed due to conditions instead there was a trail marked the Douglas Fir Trail. Did any of you Calgarians know about this? It's beautiful trail in the middle of the city with roots and stair climbs and bridges. Admittedly with the ice it might not have been the smartest move if I had hurt myself but I was careful and walked over any ice paths and enjoyed the view from the top!
At one point I could have rejoined the pathway and decided to continue up the path, what was this? Could it be an actual smile? It was wet, muddy and everything. Never underestimate the childhood fun of mud! With that many steep ascents my HR was all over the place, probably not what IG wants to hear but it was good to the spirit and sometimes that is what's really needed.
Because I know how much Keith loves visuals!
Swim this morning was less good. I couldn't get my head into the pool. Not literally obviously as heads up front crawl would be very painful. I had a difficult time focusing and my stroke suffered. Sometimes I feel like I'm getting better and sometimes it just all falls apart. But in case your wondering it went something like this.
warm up
4 100 descending to warm up
main set
4 sets of
50 scull
50 toast
50 flick
50 half zip
400m descending on the 100's

When i lived in calgary i spent alot of time on that trail...the mud is a great spiritual cleanser!!
I've been on parts of that trail, and it's really nice. Thanks for the map!
Hey bud -- I just got caught up on all the blogs ... Hang in there. Man, when life drops a bombshell, it's like a nuclear explosion, eh?
I am so glad to read you went out for your long run -- you have a wonderful sense of humour and I think that is going to be the key to keeping your perspective on all the craziness. You also have so much insight -- the way you describe family, friends, your experiences -- you have a very keen sense for seeing the truth.
I am so jealous you went out on a Susi date too! When is my turn? I wanna go see that movie "Run, Fat Boy Run" with all you all too!! :) :):)
There should be a mass run fatboy run movie date!!!!
